Case Study 13

A temporary governing body has been set up for a new school – the first meeting will be held shortly. The clerk to the new temporary governing body has asked about the role and voting rights of the headteachers of the two primary schools that will close.

Part 3 of The New Maintained Schools (Wales) Regulations 2005 (categories of temporary governor) does not include headteachers as temporary governors. Therefore the headteachers of the two closing schools have observer status only and are not entitled to vote at meetings. They can attend the temporary governing body meetings until the headteacher of the new school has been appointed.
