Frequently Asked Questions

03. How often should the governing body review and monitor the SDP?

SDPs should be considered as live documents that are regularly monitored during the development cycle and are formally reviewed and revised at least annually.

The governing body must monitor, review and update the SDP annually (as a minimum) or following an Estyn inspection, whichever is sooner. This will ensure that the school’s improvement planning and strategies reflect the up-to-date context of the school.

Governors Wales believes that it is best practice for governing body’s to monitor the SDP on a termly basis, either as a full governing body, or via their committees, with a clear reporting back mechanism to ensure all governors have an understanding of how the school is performing.
