Frequently Asked Questions

02. What is the governing body’s role in the SDP?

The governing body must prepare, monitor, review and revise the SDP. By being responsible for its preparation and revision, the governing body is responsible for agreeing and ‘signing off’ the SDP.
Although the governing body holds overall responsibility for the SDP, in practice the headteacher will work with the staff and governing body to produce the SDP and will be responsible for implementing the necessary actions and strategies to bring about improvement within the school.

A SDP will always cover a three-year period from the date of preparation or last update. Year one of the plan will contain detailed priorities, targets and strategies; whilst years two and three will capture high level priorities and targets.
