North Wales and Powys Regional Conference Report - February 2016

School Governors from across the North Wales and Powys Authority areas attended an excellent conference on Self-Improving Schools on Thursday 11th February 2016 at Ty Menai, Bangor.

A range of speakers from GwE, Gwynedd Local Authority, Estyn, the Arts Council of Wales and school practitioners explored the benefits, opportunities and challenges of school to school support and collaborative working methods.

In addition, Professor Graham Donaldson from the University of Glasgow explained the rationale behind the need for curriculum reform and the case for change in Wales. Professor Donaldson provided an overview of the recommendations within Successful Futures for the development that will create A Curriculum for Wales, A Curriculum for Life

Presentations on supporting the education of Looked After Children and the Lead Creative Schools Scheme were also delivered. The conference concluded with a real life story of a school and governing bodies’ journey – getting from good to excellent.
